I'm looking for a function to localize ordinal numbers. So '1', '2', '3' become '1st', '2nd', '3rd' in English, '1ere', '2e', '3e' in French, '1.', '2.', '3.' in German an so on.

I couldn't find anything so far.

Any suggestions?

ICU at icu.sourceforge.net seems to have such functionality. Haven't tried it myself, though. It looks like a rather heavyweight library.

Cheers,
