uhhhhh... i'm not sure what just happened, but all of a sudden it
just started working. all i did was change the order of the calling
statements. i changed it back to the original order to see what
would happen... still works fine. cleaned and tried again... still
works. :)
not sure what the deal was. i guess maybe there were some wires
crossed in the intermediate object files or something.
in any case, the code works and does not appear to leak.
whew.
nice.
now i can think about something else.
