[Spotlight API] Will file names be indexed ever?

  • Subject: [Spotlight API] Will file names be indexed ever?

I've seen the Spotlight API catching some flak for not indexing file names. I know I've had issues with it, and from talking with other people about it, I know other people have issues with it as well. UNIX's locate tool blows Spotlight out of the water for this sort of work. Are there any plans to make Spotlight index file names? I personally would like to see this in a future OS X update.
