I think in this case the API reference description probably says as much as it's ever likely to:

setCompositingOperation:
-(void)setCompositingOperation:(NSCompositingOperation)operation

Sets the receiver’s compositing operation to operation. Description forthcoming.



The "Description forthcoming" phrase should have been excised. Please send in feedback...
