Problems with Function Keys

Dear List

I have an application where my user wants certain of the buttons in the window mapped to various function keys. This is simple to do in Interface Builder, however I have experienced strange behavior in that when the function key is pressed, the button is effectively "clicked" twice, i.e. it behaves as though the mouse had clicked the button twice. Timing seems to be the issue since those buttons that map to panels only seem to depress once (since the panel takes "so" long to come up that the other event is probably lost). The buttons are stock standard Cocoa push buttons. Does anyone have any idea of what is going on and how to rectify it ?

Thanks in advance

Vincent
