Event driven parsing and xml validation

I'm planning to use the SAX-like XML parser that's part of Cocoa, but I have a few questions:

Is there a way to perform DTD or XML Schema validation on the document before processing it? Does it even do a well-formedness check beforehand? Do I have to write my own code in order to do so, and if so, where can I find code that already does this for me?
