It has the right visual effect, but the performance isn't good
enough - it snapshots the window and then renders it into a
transparent window/view, rather than using the window server's
transform methods which are accelerated by the GPU.
You're not the first one. I recently was pointed at this

by the author. You could collaborate on this, perhaps...
Also, again, if anyone wants to argue about the ethics of doing
this, keep it off list.
