Scrolling paper roll

Im creating a scrolling paper view over a black background, the type you see on an old school adding machine where a line is added to the paper roll and then the paper advances a bit. You see the top of the paper and then as each line is the whole paper moves up a bit (and you see the top edge move up). Well currently I am starting out by creating rectangles drawing the text into them, increasing the rectangle height, redrawing the whole thing etc. Seems a little too manual, and as I am not a cocoa expert I was hoping some suggestions as to how some of you more experienced guys might tackle something like this.

Regards,
Adam
