Any method to prevent context help mode?

  • Subject: Any method to prevent context help mode?

Since my kiosk application provides a customized help interface (basically context-aware tooltips), I want to disable context help mode. I also want to turn my tooltips on/off when either Command-? or the help key is pressed.

I was able easily trap for Command-Q and the help key and perform the work of toggling my tooltips. But when the help key is used, the cursor always changes to a question mark and I have to click the mouse to get out of that mode. i.e. I'm still entering context help mode. The entering of the mode occurs regardless of whether or not I return YES from performKeyEquivalent:.

Thinking I could override activateContextHelpMode, I subclassed NSApplication and provided an empty implementation for that method. But it was never called (my NSLog in it was never executed). I verified that my application subclass was indeed being used as I specified an override to run and it reached that code.

Is there any mechanism to tell an application not to ever enter context help mode? If not, I'll file an enhancement request. Perhaps a delegate method such as shouldActivateContextHelpMode could be added.
