AFAIK in this particular case retrieving the data via AppleScript from
iTunes is perfectly possible, the problem is just that you have to
keep polling if you want to know when it's changed. GUI scripting
won't help you with that.
And I think you just admitted that GUi scripting is a hack that you
should use as a last resort. ;-)
