Thanks! The NSBitmapImageRep methods are just what I was looking for. I assumed that something like this would have to be done, but wasn't sure what exactly that involved. It's just too bad this isn't something that's already built-in to NSImage, as it seems like a fairly common operation when dealing with bitmap images. Maybe this is a good candidate for an enhancement request.
