I'm having problem when my application runs on a firewire partition. I have a self repairing setuid helper tool, but it's unable to set it's owner as root on firewire partitions. I can't even set the owner to root using the Finder.

What is going on, and is there a work around?

Get info on the volume in Finder, and see if "Ignore ownership on this volume" is checked. That sounds to me like it might be the problem, but I don't know much about that setting. I'm sure others can provide some insight.
