I'm having problem when my application runs on a firewire partition. I have a self repairing setuid helper tool, but it's unable to set it's owner as root on firewire partitions. I can't even set the owner to root using the Finder.

What is going on, and is there a work around?

The user must be ignoring permissions on that drive. Do you copy your tool to ~/Library/Application Support/YourCompany/YourApp/ when self-repairing? ;)
