How can I check to see what version of Mac OS the user is running? Specifically I want to know if they are using anything less then 10.3.

Just because leftfield answers make life all the more interesting, you could use the POSIX 1003.1 uname(3) function - although you create more work for yourself if 'OS X'[*] is ever ported to a non-Darwin platform (especially one without native POSIX functions); or if the Jaguar APIs ever get ported to, e.g. Darwin 7. I.e. it works but that's no endorsement that it will work :-)

[*]For sake of argument, please read this use of OS X as less wrong than it actually is.
