That serial number can change or even disappear when certain repairs are
made. Don't count on its presence and don't count on it never changing.
Not that this tells how, but if you got the serial number, the primary MAC
address and the serial number of the HD you have a decent shot at
identifing the machine even with some failures and updates/replacements.
