Hi !
the more i play with Spotlight importers the more i find Spotlight
is not "ready for production". Let me explain my problem :
i've made an importer in 6 hours that works beautifully, thanks to
Apple.
I have 2 versions of my application (an Express version (Light) and
a Pro version), both embed the importer.
today i've noticed that spotlight does not index/import my files
correctly, i then run mdimport in debug mode (mdimport -d4) and
found interesting debug message :
Plugin 'Spotlight/OD4ContactTaskImporter.mdimporter/ -- /Volumes/
Data/Users/aure/Sources/GumiContactV2.0/build/OD4Contact.app/
Contents/Library/' UUID already claimed by 'Spotlight/
OD4ContactTaskImporter.mdimporter/ -- /Volumes/Data/Users/aure/
Sources/GumiContactV2.0/build/OD4ContactLight.app/Contents/Library/'
2005-05-09 16:21:48.543 mdimport[16830] CFLog (22): Cannot find
factory BC1F2817-5328-4444-AC61-1B830F50F614
it means that the same importer MUST be located ONCE on the
computer, or both will stop working !!!!
i must say that it is a critical bug to me : most of my users, that
carefully backup their app on their iPod or on another folder will
eventually have several versions of my importer... and none of them
will work !
did i miss something ? or did Apple took several years to design
Spotlight, but forget basic concepts ?
Yeah we just missed the boat on this one. I'm not sure when the fix
will get released.
Sorry about that.
If you find problems like this in the future please file a bug with
apple. Its the only way to ensure that these bugs get fixed.
I don't always read these mailing lists.
Thanks again
Vince
