Nope, I meant kMDItemID...

It appears to be a number associated with each file. I understand
that kMDItemIdentifier is different, and that kMDItemID is not in
the schema or docs, but it's there for every file, and you can
search by it with a raw query.
I guess since it's undocumented there's no way to find out if it's
unique across volumes?
Its not unique across volumes.
yeah it's just the inode number (compare with ls -i)
