You are right... kind of. It is somewhat more complex.
Anyway, the suggestion for importers to be as quick as possible, and
not to read in (and decompress/decrypt/whatever) gigabyte files,
instead storing the metadata in a different way which would need just
a quick seek or something similar, is definitely right.
As for the Spotlight improvements... of course, there is a lot of
potential in the technology, but let's be fair -- it's a first
release what we have :) Incidentally, have you read the excellent
John Siracusa's article at

which proposes things I would like indeed? :)
