"Reveal Drawer" button in title bars

  • Subject: "Reveal Drawer" button in title bars

I'm slowing working my way through building an document-based app for which
a drawer containing options seems a natural fit. The problem I have is that
I can't seem to find how to get the green "reveal drawer" button that so
many Apple apps display in the right-hand end of the windows title bar.

Yes, I could stick a disclosure triangle into the content part of the
window, but since there are *no* other controls there, it looks really
nasty.

IB apparently doesn't let you create NSToolbars easily (according to what
Google has found for me) and even then its not really what I want - all the
appropriate controls for this particular document window belong in the
drawer, not on-screen all the time. And I'd still want the green button to
show/hide the toolbar, not some other control in the content area.

At this point, I'm guessing that Cocoa does *not* expose a mechanism for the
reveal button, and that Apple must be using a custom window procedure, or
something similar, but I haven't been able to find any sample code (probably
through not knowing the appropriate keywords to search for)

Anyone have any clues to offer?

I got a lot of ideas. Trouble is, most of them suck.
