Well I don't know if this solution is really a perfect fit or not. But this thread seemsĀ similar to the recent thread "Dynamic User Interface with Cocoa"

It's like a table view where lines might get shifted to the right while other controls are placed on the left spanning several lines. Or are theses modified outline views?
