I just wanted to clarify a few points:

Currently in Tiger data added by third party applications to the Address Book database will not automatically be synced

As far as using custom properties, if you will benefit from attaching your data directly to a record in the Address Book database, then why not. Like Aurelien mentioned though, don't pollute the database with huge amounts of data, this is not what Address Book's built for. Also, attaching extra data to a record (group or person) means that when that record is discarded, your data will be gone too, this could be a good thing... or a bad thing (but if you do find this to be a bad thing, then it might mean that your particular data is not really meant to be attached to that record and therefore might be better stored outside of Address Book). There are examples of applications that use the Address Book database to store some data.

Hope this helps a bit,
Alex.

Hello,

Thank you both for your advice. While my fields are small and can
reasonably be considered properties of global interest I think I'll
shy away from the database for now. Even if they were in the database
the second app would need to know the property names and understand
the meaning of the data so it's of little practical, general, value.

Thanks again,
Guy
