The problem: the documentation on binding options and the name of the
option suggest that validation messages are sent when editing ends
(by pressing enter, tab, etc.) and, on top of that, on every keypress
if this option is set.
What I am seeing is that validation is *never* performed if this
option is not set, and when this option is set, it will be performed
only after editing ends.
This seems consistent with the documentation:
"If YES, the value is validated as it is entered. Otherwise, the
content is validated only when the user interface item attempts to
resign as the responder."
Perhaps I'm reading this wrong (or I wrote my first message wrong ;-)
To clarify, the situation I'm seeing is that during editing no
validation is ever performed. Then if I tab out or enter, nothing
happens unless the option is checked. If the option was just called
'Validates' it would describe the current behaviour perfectly.
I was preparing a sample for you, and luckily found out I already had
one: rdar://4118351
