NSSpellChecker and learning words.

I'm trying to add Cocoa spellchecker support to a Carbon app that supports Panther (the sample code has been real helpful there). However since I cannot use the spellchecking panel, I need to do everything by hand.

That in itself doesn't seem to be a problem, except for having words added to the user's learnt words dictionary. Adding words to ignore is easy enough, but there seems to be no method in NSSpellChecker to add a word to the list of a language's learnt words.

Am I looking in the wrong place for that or is that not possible without using the spellchecking panel?

Thanks in advance for your help.
