Thanks very, very much for the help. I was indeed not allocating and
initializing things correctly. And thanks especially to mmalc for
the sample code, which will be a great help in my getting up to speed
in Cocoa.
My code now does what I want it to do and I can start crunching the
numbers that I need to analyze!
