I have been writing an application that uses a folder to organize its contents; much like .app does. I want to register the extension as .scribe something like Document.scribe with a subfolder for images, contents, and revisions. The documents and contents are in XML format. Does anyone have information about doing this???

There are actually a group of these types of file extensions. Not just scribe.

Look at the docs for Launch Services. Especially anything referring to File Packages or Bundles (but ignore the old 'BNDL' bundle resources). NSFileWrapper might also come in handy.
