I have a tabview with a user-definable number of tabs. For some reason the tab title appears off-center (right justified) when the user reduces the number of tabs down to one (which is a fairly common situation). If there is more than one tab, everything looks fine.

Is there any way to make a tabview with one tabviewitem look better?

The better choice would be if you just removed the tab view when it has only one item left, or maybe replaced it with an NSBox. After all, a tab view is something to switch between several pages. What's the point in having a page-switcher that only allows "switching between" one page?
