In a text editor, some people (with bad eyes) like to be able to
'zoom' in on the text they're working with (without changing the font
size and without having side-scroll). I think what Keith is asking
for is a way to do this.

I don't get it. Do you want to resize the view or just the
displayed text (i.e. change the font size)? Those are two
completely different things.
