Yes, I get the ripple effect, but I have also seen iBooks that can do
the same thing.

That appears to be the simplest test you can perform.
I don't see anything about multiple levels of Core Image support
here. Quartz Extreme is a simpler technology that lets the GPU do
window compositing (i.e. window shadows and translucency are done
on the video card).

System Profiler says that my machine DOES support CoreImage. I
guess there are different levels of support for CoreImage.
Also the list does not include the new iMac, which I find hard to
believe since the graphics system is DirectX9 capable with 128MB
of RAM.
