key value validation and nstextfield

I implemented key value validation and it works fine except for one thing...

I have a NSTextfield that need to contain a string, it cannot be an empty string. the thing is that if i key into the field and then leave it, the validation method is not called. If there is some text and i delete it the validation method is not called.

Anybody knows how to get the validation method to be called in those two cases?
