Is there a somewhat simple way to be able to draw into (visually, at least) an NSView without causing the existing contents of the view to need to be redrawn?

I checked out the GLChildWindowDemo sample code, and it can do this. However, my view is contained in a scroll view and I need to be able to alter the contents of the "layer" based on the scroll position. This can be tricky, at least with what I'm doing.

Try looking into using an overlay window.
