How to recognize/identify the DVD media?

Hi, I'm working on a project which scan the data of disc (DVD). My question is, how do I know if the disc has scanned before? Just like Apple's DVD Player, it can recognize the DVD and then ask users if they want to play the DVD from beginning or last time played. I try IOKit to get the UUID of DVD with no luck, nothing returned. :( Does anyone know how to do this in one way or another? Thanks in advance, MacSmith =========================
