Font toolbar button doesn't close Font panel

Stupid question: my app uses the standard font toolbar button, NSToolbarShowFontsItemIdentifier. It shows the Font panel nicely, but clicking it again doesn't hide it. Some apps are able to do this - Pages, Keynote, OmniOutliner. What's the secret?
