CGImageSourceCopyPropertiesAtIndex returns nil?

I'm trying to get the properties of an .ai image.

CGImageSourceCopyPropertiesAtIndex returns nil.

But, If I create an NSImage, I can get the size. Why doesn't CGImageSourceCopyPropertiesAtIndex return a kCGImagePropertyPixelWidth and kCGImagePropertyPixelHeight?
