removeObjectForKey: does nothing if key doesn't exist?

According to the docs, -[NSMutableDictionary removeObjectForKey:] does nothing if the key doesn't exist. However, when I try and remove a key that doesn't exist, it raises an exception. Is this a documentation error, or am I missing something?
