Erm, how is the free version any better than Console.app?

Well, just discovered, that it is probably not for you. Sorry for the posting. I wasn't aware of certain Console properties.

We developed LogSurfer primarily due to RegEx filtering. Pro
allows to exclude and include certain messages based on filter
expression. Moreover, instead of the original message, Pro allows
to print a substituted message.

just a short note regarding LogSurfer, a tool which might be of interest

Free Edition is fully functional, but lacks rules support. Pro Edition adds:

- Regular expression rules [include pattern, exclude pattern, statistics logging]
- Colorized log entries
- GROWL, audible and spoken notifications
