It builds fine in Development.
But when I tried building in Deployment, when it was
linking it came up with the error: cannot find file
for -lmysqlclient

I think you need to customize build settings for ld to find libmysqlclient.
Perhaps you did this for your development target, but not for the deployment target.
look at the -L build setting in both targets.
