Presumably then, your privUsername variable is not realy a string then.

It's not wrong, it's the value of "NSNotFound", meaning that there were no tab in the tab view for the identifier you tried to look up.


Note that in the code snippet you showed above, you created a tab view item, but didn't actually add it to any tab view.
