Oh, the bug is also worked around by opening any other window and closing it. For example, I can open up my "about box" window, close the about box, then I am now able to enter text again, whereas before I wasn't.

It's got something to do with the textfield focus, or nextresponder perhaps? Something to do with events anyhow. I tried using [[self window] becomeFirstResponder];

but that solved nothing, same bug as before. It was only a guess anyhow, I really don't know what's causing this problem.
