I think it would be more beneficial (and potentially faster) to find out how to load the files in smaller blocks, as needed. Many applications have had to deal with this. Such as Adobe photoshop being able to load an over 1gig document (when flat, no idea how large when not flat) without completely screewing the pooch. http://www.bertmonroy.com/fineart/text/fineart_damen.htm
