NSTokenField automatically selecting all

I'm working with several NSTokenFields in a window, and they're
showing unexpected behavior. When I click on one of them when the
field doesn't already have focus, all current tokens are selected.
It's what I would expect if I clicked in the token field and then
pressed command-A, but the select-all happens automatically.
This doesn't happen with NSTextField, but there don't appear to be any
settings on NSTokenField that affect this behavior.
Why does this happen, and what can I do to stop it?
