Tom Marchand and John Buckley gave two suggestions where to look.
I had no other ideas at a glance. That's what I meant. It seems the
suggestion about not releasing the animation is not the problem, so
what about the array suggestion? Sorry, I can't really think of any
other suggestions than what others have offered already - it seems
like a memory management issue to me.

Have they helped? I'll add the importance of learning how to use the
debugger. You *must* learn how to use this tool.
I admit that I'm not that skilled with the debugger. I used it to
figure out the call trace for this error, and to determine that it
happened during the -startAnimation call. Can you suggest some other
helpful info I'd want -- and how to get it using the debugger?
As far as the quote below (divider thickness), my previous
statement still stands. Subclass NSSplitView. If it's collapsed,
return "0" for the divider thickness, otherwise, return the "usual
value" (which I believe is 10?).
Good point. I'll do that.
Thanks for your help.

Regarding the split view divider thickness, I actually want it to
disappear only when the split pane is collapsed. Try clicking the
info
button in iCal to see what I mean.
