Is there anyway to know which day is the first day of the week
from an International point of view when using Mac OS X < 10.4.
In Australia at least this is entirely personal preference. I
think it's predominantly Sunday, but I do know quite a few people
who take it as Monday.
I must wonder though if it really matters? iCal needs to know
because you can't scroll through the days, in week view,
arbitrarily; you have to jump a week at a time (which I figure's a
bug anyway). I know a few odd sorts who figure their week starts
on, say, Thursday, because they work from Thursday through Monday,
taking Tuesday & Wednesday as their weekend. They'd appreciate
iCal's flexibility as to what the first day of the week is.
But for that one example, there's plenty of others involving date
handling where it's probably irrelevant. Can you share your
particular scenario with us?
I guess there should perhaps be a setting for this in the Date &
Time preference pane.
In Germany and AFAIK most of Europe the week starts Monday. This
influences things like the week of the year (a concept heavily used
in businesses of here) and very visibly the way wall calendars look
like. If anybody starts her personal week on Thursday that's fine,
but I think Australia does have an official definition for this. I
know there is a ISO Standard for calculating the week of the year...
Cheers,
Horst
