Cocoa Scripting "scripting<Type>Descriptor"

  • Subject: Cocoa Scripting "scripting<Type>Descriptor"

I asked about this a month or two ago on AppleScript-Implementors and didn't get any response, so I thought it was worth a try to ask here.

Is there any documentation, official or otherwise, about the phenomenon of objects having "scripting<Type>Descriptor" methods called on them when they are exposed as a <type> parameter of an object through an sdef?

For instance if I specify an attribute as type "any" the scripting mechanism will try to call "scriptingAnyDescriptor" on my object.

Searching via google reveals that the Colloquy seems to be about the only public source available that is taking advantage of this phenomenon. I'd like to take advantage of it, too. But I'd like to know what I'm getting into (and hopefully get some kind of tacit approval from Apple).

Any info?

Thanks!

Daniel
