System Services: is there an alternative?

Hi everybody!

It is probably the only way to access a selection of _almost_ ANY frontmost application. A kind of universal interface to any application. A great way to introduce exciting services. We've got an exciting service that we want to introduce. This service is good for any text-processing application; especially great for mail clients.

System Services refuse to work with Mail. (Output from services doesn't paste into Mail). The Services may work excellent with some other mail clients. I am afraid, most of our clients will get rid of our program instead of switching to another mail client.

The way the System Services are called is awkward and clumsy (should there be an easier way?), but it is something we could live with.

Can anybody recommend me another way to access type and content of current selection of an arbitrary frontmost application?

I am very used to System Services. I am sure there is no other way, but...

By the way, who should I report the Mail + System Services problems to? I am afraid it is not a thing for radar...

Thanks in advance for any response (I dream of a miracle)!
Best regards
Oleg
