Hi guys,

Thanks for the suggestions. It seems it is something about subviews (in my case the buttons) inheriting the drawInRect: actions of their parent view. My parent view was drawing a single grey line to create a bottom-border, which it seems was causing the extra grey line in my buttons. Removing this border line, or adding the buttons to the Window's view rather than my custom view seems to solve the problem.

See here for more http://cocoadev.com/index.pl?IPhotoLikeButtonStrip

Thanks again for peoples' help.
Chris
