Image opacity

Hi,

I am having some troubling applying the opacity to the image
(NSBitMapImageRep).

I am changing the alpha value of each pixel to reduce or increase the
opacity.
The problem is when the opacity is reduced below 60%, the image appears as
if huge brightness and contrast is applied.
I am not at all altering the RGB values. I am not able to find out what's
causing this problem.

Any help on this will be appreciated...

Regards
Vinay
