I've tried a few different ideas I've found on the net, and they all run relatively slow.

What is "relatively slow" and what exactly (show some code!) did you try?

What do I need to do for (or where can I find) a view that has the blinding update speed of the XCode log and behaves in a similar fashion (wrapping text if needed, etc)

Um. I'd think it uses a normal NSTextView. What are you trying to do so that an NSTextView does not seem to be fast enough?
