iPhoto has a plug-in architecture. It loads a mail plug-in that contains AppleScript fragments for the mail client of your choice. If you want to use a mail client other than Mail you install a different plug-in, or create your own.

Yeah I found the scripts now in iPhoto.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts

there could be a solution.

In case of Mail and Entourage when you drag and drop a few files on the Application Icon it will create a mail with those files so can also be simulated with code this behavior..
