The best way to get the answer you want is to be specific about what you want to do. For example:

1. Do you want your application to act as a local database (like Access or FileMaker) or a front-end to a remote database server (like PostgreSQL or MySQL)?

2. If you're using a remote database, which database server?

3. Multi or single user?

... and so on.
