Crash log with '???' as app version?

  • Subject: Crash log with '???' as app version?

We're occasionally getting crash logs submitted by users that don't have the version attached, just question marks. To me, this implies that the application is launched strangely in a way that it can't read the info.plist. Has anybody seen this before, and have any ideas?

Example:

Host Name: johns-power-mac-g4
Date/Time: 2006-12-17 12:22:31.523 -0500
OS Version: 10.4.8 (Build 8L127)
Report Version: 4

Command: Sandvox
Path: /Users/John/Desktop/Sandvox.app/Contents/MacOS/Sandvox
Parent: WindowServer [56]

Version: ??? (???)

PID: 564
Thread: 0
